Infusan D5 + ½ NS Glucose, Na Chloride Infusion

Each 500 ml contains :
Glucose Monohydrate equivalent to
Anhydrous Glucose        ..................................................... 25 g
Sodium Chloride             .....................................................   2,25 g
Water for injection ad     .....................................................   500 ml

Glucose                                                           50 g/l
Sodium                                                            77 mEq/l
Chloride                                                          77 mEq/l
Osmolarity                                                      432 mOsm/l

Pharmacology
Glucose is a source of calories and fluids in patients unable to obtain adequate oral intake.
Sodium chloride is the principal salt involved in maintenance of plasma tonicity.

Indications
Used for peripheral infusion to provide calories whenever fluid and caloric replacement are required.

Contra Indications
  1. Glucose-galactose malabssoption syndrome 
  2. In diabetic coma

Adverse Reactions
  1. -          Febrile response, infection at the injection site, tissue necrosis, venous thrombosis or phlebitis extending from the site of injection. These may occur because of the solution or administration technique. Use the largest avaible peripheral vein and a well placed small bore needle.
  2. -           Hypernatremia.

Precautions
  1. -          Hyperglycemia and glycosuria may be functions of rate of administration or metabolic insufficiency. To minimize these conditions, slow the infusion rate, monitor blood and urin glucose.
  2. -          If thrombosis occurs during administration, stop injection and correct
